To accommodate an increasing on-campus student population, Medaille College commissioned services for a new 74,000 sf residence hall: a 267-bed, multistory student housing project with common space, study rooms, and laundry facilities on each floor. Cannon Design also orchestrated the renovation and expansion of the existing campus center, which involved enclosing the existing outdoor seating area to accommodate tables and seating for approximately 250 students while at the same time opening up the existing building to provide a larger open dining area of approximately 3,200 sf.
In an effort to re-image the campus and make it more cohesive, a parking lot located at the front of the campus was moved to the rear of the campus and expanded to accommodate approximately 500 cars. The new parking lot is buffered from the adjacent historic Forest Lawn Cemetery by a raised landscape berm along the perimeter, and the displaced parking area on the front of the campus was replaced with green lawn space to create a more formal quadrangle uniting the campus center, academic buildings, and residence halls.
