Matchmakers Wharf regenerates the former Lesney Toy factory to create a unique residential development, located on the fringe of the Olympic Park, Hackney Marshes and River Lea. Introducing 209 much needed affordable and private homes, the scheme also includes artists’ studios, retail space, a children’s play area and residents’ gym.
The scheme comprises four residential blocks located within two buildings. A 15 storey tower at the south end of the site serves as a marker building, whilst the remainder of the accommodation wraps across the site stepping from ten down to four storeys to reflect the scale of smaller development to the north.
In addition to the new homes, the scheme delivers 3,500m² of commercial space. Included in this are 49 artists’ studios managed by Acme Studios, a London-based charity funded by Arts Council England. Acme Studios will provide an artists in residence programme at Matchmakers Wharf so some of the artists will be able to work in the studios and live in the affordable units provided in the development.
Matchmakers Wharf leads the way for continuing regeneration in the Homerton area and beyond offering a vibrant development for a diverse community.
