ASSIGNMENT
The CEME project refers to the partial replacement, adaptation and standardization of a three-story complex, composed of new and existing buildings, whose holder is the Municipal Corporation of Education and Health of Peñalolén CORMUP. Given the need to expand and generate new spaces, the main objective was to integrate the existing with the proposed, allowing a unique image of the project.
It is proposed to generate volumes that through their different levels are linked to the existing, generating in turn voids that articulate in plan the distribution of the school buildings. The roof not only fulfills its functional condition, but through the use of folds and overhangs it unifies the volumes and generates a recognizable facade towards the public space.
CONTEXT | LOCATION
It is located at the intersection of Grecia Avenue and La Frontera Street in the complete block, generating a continuous facade towards its surroundings, with simple gestures of opening and closing, the main access and the facades are determined, which have different hard and permeable materials that respond to the requirements of orientation and sunlight.
CONCEPT | PROJECT
The project uses criteria of universal accessibility and connectivity, integrating public spaces through a continuous circulation on different levels. In this way, the building proposes the unification of space, recognizing itself as a single volume.
It has 3 levels, with 32 classrooms and 30 specialty workshops, with a capacity of 35 to 45 students each, teaching equipment, remodeling of the administration and kitchens.
MATERIAL | ENVIRONMENT
The predominant materiality is exposed concrete, which is perceptually lightened by the subtle use of color in vertical elements, wooden ceilings and the skin that presents diverse textures, such as wood, stone and green walls that allude to a natural environment immersed in the city. The project is approached under concepts of energy efficiency and sustainability, since it has natural lighting, insulation of the envelope and solar control by means of eaves and lattices according to the orientation of its facades to improve the conditions of interior habitability and protection in the circulations.
