ttl-architects teamed with Mohr & Seredin Landscape Architects for the master plan and design of a new Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta, Maine. The Cemetery includes 35,000 burial plots, a visitors’ center/administration building, a timber-framed chapel for 80 mourners, and a maintenance garage. Committal shelters were also designed, but never constructed. Heavy timber trusses support the steeply pitched sheltering roof forms and rest on human scaled granite piers. The design intent is to reflect Maine’s history, the culture of its people and to honor Maine veterans who have served our nation.
