Maceda Sports Building is a multi-purpose sports facility built in Ovar, Portugal.
The program, based on the Sports Institute of Portugal regulations, built a sports facility to accommodate volleyball, basketball, roller hockey, and soccer practice.
The building is set in an open area and comprises five functional groups that have been integrated into three volumes. The main space houses the court area and a bench for approximately 300 seated spectators; the two secondary volumes, in the lower level, encompass the service areas such as locker/changing rooms, and toilets.
The building took advantage of two separated construction systems: a more conventional construction reinforced by concrete in the secondary areas; and a bolder and warmer wood structure, which provides the acoustic comfort and the welcoming environment in the court and bench areas.
