This fall, to cap off the completion of the $250 million renovation of Brookfield Place, Rockwell Group is reimagining the holiday festival with Luminaries, a public, interactive light display located in the Winter Garden atrium. Rockefeller Center has its monumental tree; Brookfield Place hopes to start a holiday tradition in the heart of Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City that is just as enduring—one built on the season’s traditions of sharing, giving, community, and light. Visitors to the world class, luxury shops, restaurants, and amenities at Brookfield Place now have a chance to pause, reflect, look forward to a new year, and connect with each other through a collaborative lighting ritual.
Working with Arts Brookfield, Brookfield’s initiative to commission and present works of art in its buildings around the world, the LAB at Rockwell Group designed Luminaries, an interactive lighting display for the public, located in the iconic Winter Garden. Luminaries includes three Wishing Stations positioned throughout the atrium. These white, glowing, touch-sensitive Corian stations invite visitors to make a wish, pulsing in response to their touch. The Wishing Stations will “send” the wish to a canopy of approximately 650 twinkling lanterns above, translating the wish into a mesmerizing display of dappling lights and colors that travel throughout the lanterns. The interactive and collective act of wishing creates a communal and celebratory tradition. In addition, spectacular, choreographed lightshows will be scheduled throughout the day and night.
Through this initiative, Brookfield has partnered with the GRAMMY Foundation® to support their GRAMMY in the Schools® music education programs for high school students. For every wish sent by the public, Arts Brookfield will donate $1 up to $25,000.
