The new Lufthansa Aviation Center is located at Europe’s busiest transport junction where Frankfurt Airport, two highways, and the ICE high-speed train lines meet. The main challenge was to achieve high quality and open-plan offices while effectively insulating the building against emissions and noise.
Underneath a paraglider-like roof there are ten gardens with adjacent office wings, the so-called "office homes". The ten wings enclose landscaped gardens as buffer zones and are aligned along an internal "street" that acts as the building’s spine.
1,850 work places are oriented towards the glassed-in gardens and enjoy natural ventilation and daylight. The gardens provide for a healthy interior climate, and contain plants selected from the five continents to symbolise Lufthansa’s global connections.
