LINC Library Innovation Center, a flagship for the High Plains Library District, seamlessly blends exploration and innovation in a 64,000 square foot space. Inspired by the confluence of the Cache la Poudre River and the South Platte River, the design fosters a sense of unity, converging the library, innovation hall, and children's museum at the symbolic confluence of the lobby.
Rooted in the historical significance of Northern Colorado's watershed, the LINC pays homage through a perforated metal facade, featuring a map of the river basin. This sculptural ode melds regional history with modern design, creating a visual narrative of the area's water law legacy. A variety of over 30 collaboration spaces, including a "river of books," creates a feeling of discovery and connection. The experience of walking through the building was inspired by the vibrancy of Middle Eastern bazaars.
Functionally, the LINC caters to diverse needs, offering a main collection space with a circular outdoor courtyard, a children's library, maker spaces, event venues, computer labs, study rooms, a genealogy collection, AV/recording studio, gaming lounge, and innovation lab.
Sustainability takes center stage with the adaptive reuse of the Greeley Tribune. The old 42,000 square foot space, built in 1986, once housed the newspaper’s offices, newsprint press and distribution. By expanding the building toward the street, it connects it to pedestrians and enhances the downtown experience. An interpretive trail activates the street, including water educational features with a dual purpose of water treatment.
LINC is a knowledge market, where casual interaction leads to new passions and growth opportunities. A free, hands-on children's museum and interactive art installation by Wes Bruce contribute to the region's enrichment. LINC Library Innovation Center is a catalyst for community change, embodying a commitment to teaching skills, sharing knowledge and sparking the imagination.
