Lighthouse
Location: Playa Venao, Pedasi, Panama
Size: 150m2
Project description:
Design of a luxury honeymoon suite in an existing lighthouse as part of the ‘El Sitio’ resort.
The lighthouse is located at the center of the hotel complex, within a bay overlooking the ocean on one hand and an evergreen mountain view on the other.
The main aim of this project was to create a love nest, surrounded by nature and natural elements, and invite the visitors to escape their daily lives in a special and memorable retreat far away from any city, whilst keeping high luxury standards and services.
Divided into three floors, each with a diameter of approximately 5 meters, we decided to spread the functions into levels. On the first floor, we created a relaxing lounge and bar area, where guests can enjoy the relaxing view of the beach and ocean, while sipping on their cocktail or morning coffee. On the second floor, we designed an open bathroom, with a central round bathtub with rain shower, facing the view. Privacy can be obtained easily thanks to sheer curtains and wooden louvers. On the third and top floor, we chose to change the usual approach of sleeping on a bed. We wanted to create an intimate, romantic feel so we decided to place the mattress on a deck platform, facing the sea and surrounded by low hanging bamboo lamps.
The idea during the whole design process was to keep the materials as natural and local as possible, to facilitate the sourcing and implementation of our design, while remaining cost efficient and of high luxury standards.
From the bar, to the staircase and bed, every single detail was thought of carefully and designed to fit the conical shape of the lighthouse.
