Le Dune is a residential building located in Torres, a coastal city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Situated in an established neighborhood, the building seeks to respect the local scale, mostly composed of two- to three-story constructions. Although integrated into the urban context, it stands out with its horizontal volume and clean lines, resulting in a solid, welcoming composition with a unique identity that balances private life with the urban environment.
The three-story building features a modular layout, creating a dynamic facade with balconies in varied shapes that serve as protected outdoor living spaces. This modular organization softens the perception of the building's height and emphasizes its horizontal orientation. Large glass areas and generous openings provide a constant flow of natural light, maximizing cross ventilation and offering views of the coastal landscape. In total, there are twenty residential units with different types and sizes, including one- to three-bedroom apartments and duplex units.
The street-facing facade gives the building a unique character, with a modular grid that divides the volume into compartments of various dimensions, further emphasizing its horizontal orientation and integration with the surroundings.
Le Dune has been recognized in international competitions, winning first place in The Plan Award in Venice, Italy; in the Cityscape Awards in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and in the IDA Design Awards in Los Angeles, United States. It was awarded second place in Rethinking the Future in New Delhi, India, and in the Saint-Gobain Prize in São Paulo, Brazil. It also received an honorable mention in the AsBEA Award and was shortlisted in the WAN Awards.
