The Mississauga Public Library project encompasses major renovations and additions to the Lakeview, Port Credit, and Lorne Park branch libraries, all dating from between 1956 and 1967. The three renovations have been structured as one project, a strategy put forth by the client as a way to use public infrastructure stimulus funds efficiently. Each library is situated in a park setting: Lakeview and Lorne Park in established 1950s suburban neighbourhoods, and Port Credit adjacent to the Credit River along the commercial high street of the old town of Port Credit. The solution respectfully acknowledges the continuing relevance of modernism, transforming the facilities by exploring and accentuating the existing conditions. The resulting buildings aspire to increase public appreciation for historical modernist architecture and encourage a new generation of library users back to these community institutions.
