Lake Dragon Residential Development

Guangzhou, China

STATUS
Built
YEAR
2016
SIZE
1,000,000 +
This luxury, low-density residential development comprises 245 villas, a clubhouse and a sales office and is situated near Nine Dragon Lake in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Guangzhou’s Huadu district. Residences in Phase I of the project sit within a gently rolling landscape and sunken valley next to the Asian Games golf course.

The design feel is that of a contemporary village environment, which combines modern European and Chinese vernacular architectural elements. The design of the internal courtyards originates from the “Si He Yuan” tradition found in Beijing’s hutongs. Larger villas are more like formal quadrangles with courtyards and side houses, yet they open outwards and are transparent to their surroundings while retaining their privacy at the same time. Boundaries between interior and exterior are minimised with terraces and balconies. Stone and natural profiled tiles are used for external finishes, creating greater unity with the surroundings. Each villa uses a greywater recycling system may install solar panels to generate renewable energy, in the interests of sustainability.

With its respect for the natural landscape, Lake Dragon’s integrated architectural, landscape and interior design approach sets a unique standard for residential developments.
