A new floor and terrace within Kensington and Chelsea
Satish Jassal Architects were approached to remodel an existing roof space in Kensington and Chelsea’s Colville conservation area. Steep roof slopes and a small existing terrace compromised the existing roof space.
Our solution was to cut back some of the existing roofs to create a more useable roof terrace and to capitalise on the impressive views of London. We did this by introducing and anodised aluminium frontage with L shaped glazing to bring light down into the lower living areas. Two modern dormer windows were inserted to the rear to increase the internal headroom and create a bedroom and ensuite.
A view study at street level was carried out demonstrating that the changes could not be seen from the street, hence not having any impact on the Colville conservation area.
