Kaizuka city is located in the south of Osaka.It is a sports town that nurtured the "Witch of the Orient", Nishinbo Kaizuka, who won the women's volleyball gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.This pool will be entrusted with swimming classes at 16 elementary and junior high schools, 10 kindergartens and preschools.This city, which advocates a healthy and sports city, decided to outsource the pool classes to a private company that specializes in swimming instruction in indoor pools, focusing on healthy growth and safety of children, while preventing from the risks of outdoor lessons, lack of institutional system and supervision of lessons. Swimming lessons will be also run after school.
The pool where we all watch over the children”
Now going on outsourcing of swimming classes for elementary and junior high schools, kindergartens and preschools to the private sector, we are thinking what type of pool is required as a new private indoor pool.
The aim is to create a pool where not only the staff would monitor the children, but everyone in this pool, including parents, can also watch over the children. By concentrating the vertical load on the two mast columns, we created a integrated, column-free space with the pool and the gallery that is easy to watch over children. In addition, we designed a flat from the entrance to the poolside, so that everyone's line of sight reaches the poolside.
To prevent children from being obscured by reflections in the water, direct sunlight is avoided and stable natural light is brought in from all sides of the north face. In this pool filled with soft indirect light, children can swim healthily.
Externally, two mast pillars jutting out like the sails of a sailboat play a role in making this pool a familiar landmark for everyone in town. It is also located at the intersection of school roads. The structure was designed to keep the building height low so that shadows do not drop on the sidewalks as much as possible.
We hope that this pool will become a facility that is close to Kaizuka's citizens and will be familiar to them for a long time.
