HONOURABLE MENTION in the X PREMI D'ARQUITECTURA DE SANT CUGAT 2011, awarded by the Associació de Propietaris de Sant Cugat. Rehabilitation of two ground floor terraced houses, 1927, in a row of four identical houses in the old Sant Cugat. The project is chosen to preserve the volume, adding a new floor space occupied by the old ventilated room under the roof gable. Thus, the project seeks to preserve the aspects that constituted the original architecture, maintaining the housing-linked group to which they belong, such as volume, materials and original features, while it proposes a total renovation of the interior layout, adapting it to the reduced family who is going to live in. Continuous spaces are proposed, avoiding compartmentalization and darkness of the original architecture, where all the pieces are connected directly with the exterior light. Thus, the parts that require to be closed are solved with walls of translucent glass as a light box. This element allows the passage of light through it in both directions, both day and night, thus benefiting both the study and the bathrooms.
