United under one roof, the medical staff, educators, and researchers at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center are committed to providing compassionate patient care, advanced research, and innovative medical education. Completed in two phases, the building is designed to encourage interaction between faculty, researchers, and patients and to be a integrated part of the medical campus. The building envelope is comprised of the same materials – brick, precast, and curtain wall – as those of the existing medical campus buildings in a contemporary design that maximizes daylighting and views. For example, the curved curtain wall of the 3-story atrium in the cancer center takes its cue from the curved exterior walls of the hospital lobby and ambulatory care buildings.
