The new 52,000SF LEED Gold James B. McNeer Science and Technology Building on the campus of Richard Bland College off Johnson Road in Petersburg, Virginia features a strong connection to the existing campus’s student center, library and adjacent academic building by creating an adjacent enclosed outdoor quadrangle through it’s careful placement on the site. Natural daylight is carefully introduced into all instructional, faculty and staff spaces through the use of an atrium and transparent glazing systems along with sun shading devices. The use of indigenous exterior materials such as brick and cast stone panels complement and link the new facility to it’s neighbors through contemporary detailing. The building is the first LEED certified project on campus.
