The new terminal at Jaipur International Airport is designed to provide passengers with a distinct sense of arrival to the state of Rajasthan. The architectural vision merges a contemporary design with traditional Rajasthani elements and an indigenous material palette, offering an immersive introduction to the region’s cultural and architectural heritage.
The terminal's entrance, combined with locally sourced materials, plays a pivotal role in defining its distinctly Rajasthani character. Sandstone, quarried and finished in the region, is prominently used on the stone piers at the entrance, evoking the timeless grandeur of Rajasthan’s historic fortress walls. This spacious entrance porch also reduces the impact of Rajasthan’s extreme climate on the passengers arriving and departing the terminal.
Spanning approximately 22,500 sq m, the terminal design prioritizes passenger experience, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability in equal measure. Planned to optimize passenger flow while efficiently integrating airside and landside operations. The terminal features straight departure gates for seamless boarding and a gracefully curved edge on the city-side, creating a welcoming first impression. Functionality is elevated through state-of-the-art baggage handling systems, intuitive wayfinding, and well-equipped departure and arrival spaces that cater to diverse passenger needs. Simultaneously, the terminal takes a climate-responsive approach, employing innovative energy-efficient strategies such as passive cooling techniques, ample natural light penetration, modern HVAC systems, and indigenous landscaping to reduce energy consumption.
The terminal serves as a gateway that immerses passengers in the cultural richness of Rajasthan from the moment they arrive. The interior spaces incorporate motifs inspired by Jaipur's cultural symbols, including representations of camels, elephants, peacocks, palaces, and forts, complemented by intricate wood carvings and jali work - hallmarks of the region’s architectural style.
