dD+P has been providing operational planning, facilities management, and architectural design services to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center since 1986 and is acting as the Owner’s Representative on the $1.7 billion expansion. One of the largest ongoing, dD+P-led projects is an interior renovation of the Javits Center executive, operational, and administrative spaces.
The primary goal of this interiors project has been to create a more efficient, modern workplace that will enhance inter-departmental communication. The renovation focuses on fostering optimal and seamless administrative production for one of New York City’s most valuable cultural and economic assets, the Javits Center, by emphasizing openness, privacy, and sustainability.
All existing traditional offices were demolished and replaced with a ribbon of rooms that feature glazed and flex wall systems, promoting transparency. Glass doors throughout the design extend a connection to the outside world despite a lack of exterior windows. Amenities and technology were added to improve employee satisfaction while a flexible furniture system prepares for future department growth.
The palette finishes, and materials for this project were selected to complement the iconic Javits Center building design. Sustainable elements were integrated at each design phase to secure the project’s LEED Silver certification. Additionally, dD+P oversaw the design and implementation of the Javits Center’s new Starbucks Coffee Kiosk and is currently working on various other improvement projects.
dD+P also completed Sandy recovery design at the Jacob Javits Center, where water flooded the entire first level of the building and impacted many of the building’s systems. The design included improvements for storm damage repairs and mitigation for protection against future storms.
