The Iron Man Experience, the first Marvel-themed attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland, debuted in 2016. The attraction comprises ashow building and amerchandise building with a meet-and-greet area. The show building houses a simulator-based attraction and queuing space, as well as the “Iron Man Tech Showcase - Presented by Stark Industries”, a pre-ride static show area.

RLP worked on this project as Executive Architect incollaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI). Using WDI’s design concept and schematic design, RLP provided technically feasible solutions which complied with Hong Kong building regulations. In the project’s later stages, RLP took the lead in the design development, detailed design, and documentation and statutory submission phases.

We used Building Information Modelling (BIM) as an efficient collaborative platform – BIM gave all parties an up-to-the-minute,integrated and technically accurate visualisation of the work progress, creating efficiencies and improving coordination. During the construction stage, RLP also acted as the intermediary between WDI, the ride’s production team, the consultants, and the contractor. We reviewed documents and plans from the different parties and coordinated and monitored the construction progress on site.
