To design this children’s psychological center, we repurposed an existing Soviet-era family house in a quiet residential neighborhood. We completely restructured the building’s interior but maintained the original façade, which harmonizes with the surrounding neighborhood and grounds the building in its context.
A third floor was added to increase the capacity of the building, and an additional stand-alone structure was constructed in the yard. The building takes advantage of natural lighting opportunities and provides children with a number of well-lit, welcoming spaces. Breaks between old and new within the structure are explicit.
