“Community is at the core of Inatai’s work, so we felt it was important to give the best view in the office to the community. Everyone who steps through the entrance gets to experience that incredible Puget Sound view on arrival.” —Kirsten Ring Murray, FAIA, Design Principal
Inatai Foundation’s new office in Seattle’s Rainier Tower demonstrates how disciplined and inclusive design can level the playing field for advocacy and change. In support of Inatai’s mission to ensure equity and racial justice across Washington State and beyond, the office provides workspaces for staff and allows grantees to strengthen relationships with donors and government officials by hosting gatherings and meetings.
Aligned with Inatai’s values, accessibility is prioritized throughout the office. Shared spaces—including flexible seating areas, conference rooms, and the staff kitchen—frame views of the Puget Sound and the surrounding urban district. Staff enjoy individual offices for private and focused work, with glass walls to ensure natural daylight from perimeter windows reaches workspaces at the building’s core. A range of casual meeting rooms and gathering zones of varying sizes are available to both staff and grantees. Meanwhile, moveable walls divide the largest conference room into flexible spaces suitable for a variety of meetings, events, and workshops.
A timeless palette enables the nonprofit to adapt alongside the communities it serves. Wood-slatted ceilings and concrete floors unify the office, and wood tables provide intimate workspaces for collaboration. Vibrant furniture and a curated collection of art, with an emphasis on diverse Washington State artists, punctuate the soft, grey walls.
