Nature is a creator of value and identity, from well-being to biodiversity. The building unfolds around an oval courtyard, a planted garden that serves as the beating heart of the campus. Light and air permeate the internal work and reception spaces, creating a unique three-dimensional spatial unity. The campus is conceived as an urban village, composed of the courtyard garden, the piazza, and the streets, where the functional cells gravitate within the open space built around the green courtyard. This “void” becomes the stage for social, intellectual, and productive functions, allowing for flexible and adaptable configurations over time. The envelope, in an attempt to mediate between the nearby horizontal landscape of the Romagna countryside and the presence of large industrial volumes, can be read as a true “container,” defined by the succession of massive elements with a trapezoidal section that generate rhythm and shading along the entire perimeter of the ground floor, while the first floor, on the contrary, presents a coplanar façade where, following the module, opaque and transparent surfaces alternate, covered with a protective skin made of a metal mesh with specific functional and performance characteristics but which at the same time emphasizes the architectural gestures and gives character to the entire building. The ecological benefits of the green roof complete the design of the “fifth façade,” an element of connection with the open space of the sky. These, together with the passive energy strategies adopted and the electrical supply provided by photovoltaic panels, guarantee the highest standard of comfort for the building’s users and a reduction in energy consumption to a minimum.
