House of Luz—translating to “House of Light”—is a new home nestled amidst a serene lemon grove on the outskirts of Sintra in southern Portugal. Here, where warm inland air meets the cool ocean breeze, the timeless and elegant home is meticulously crafted to harmonize with this unique microclimate, offering an unparalleled living experience.
A white sculptural wall envelops the entire residence, creating a shaded sanctuary removed from the lively activity of nearby Lisbon. Within, this shelter provides each room with a sense of tranquility, comfort, and privacy. A southern terrace invites the homeowners and their guests to indulge in moments of blissful relaxation, overlooking a lap pool concealed within an oval reflecting pool. As the homeowner seeks unity with the home’s beautiful rural setting, the design introduces a bridge from the house to a suspended meditation deck in the landscape, creating a profound opportunity for meaningful connection between body, soul, and nature.
