House in Santa Eulalia

Lima, Peru

Project Featured on Feb 24, 2014
YEAR
2010
SIZE
1000 sqft - 3000 sqft
BUDGET
$100K - 500K
The project is assembled taking the existing landscape as its bearing: a Little land in Lima´s Sierra, in the Santa Eulalia Valley. The land is located in Huarochiri´s Province, Santa Eulalia District, in the “Boliche” Ranch from the ex-ranch “Parca”, in a residential condominium of cottages. The “L” shaped land has a slope that descends to the zone´s irrigation canal (which runs through it). The channel was widened and turned into a little river that is integral part of the landscaping proposal. The house is located in the lowest sector of the land, looking at the fruit trees that already existed, integrating them into the central garden design. The first one, made in stone like the separating walls of the different lands in the zone, these walls are called “Pircas”, this integrates with the local landscape and the heights of close-by stone terraces. This level has a rectangular plan, of 12.90m by 5.50m, with its longest sides looking to the North and South, with a roofed terrace of 3.60m that goes over the little river to the West side. This first floor houses the social spaces: Living room, Dining room and Kitchen. On the second level, built completely in wood, recreates and plays with the profile of the mountains that close the tight valley of the sierra. This level occupies the entire footprint of the first one plus the terrace protecting it from the sun and is supported by columns that land into the little river. This level houses the sleeping area and bathrooms. The roof is light and veneered with wood rods so to not block the landscape to the houses located in higher levels. A pool has been built in front of the fruit garden, a grill and hand-made clay oven besides the little river. The rest of the land is garden and playground. Residual waters are treated in situ via two bio-filters and then filtered in the ground to irrigate the root of the main trees.
