This project involves a plan for a two-generation home. The client felt that the commonly seen spatial configurations created by voids lacked realism; they valued maximum floor area as the real worth. Given these constraints, the design creatively turned these limitations on their head. As a result of each space jostling for floor area, the grid subtly shifts, evoking a sense of movement. Between these fluctuating grids, gentle expansions occur. Sightlines and movement adjust to this flux, bringing intimacy and softness to an otherwise angular space. While the composition, structure, materials, and fixtures are all standard, the house presents an uncommon visage, as if fiction and non-fiction are synchronized.
