Sensitive architecture makes the 5-star Tazi Palace Hotel an authentic celebration of Morocco’s rich history and culture. This project presented two challenges from which we created opportunities. First, the steep terrain required a stepped design that results in an intriguing, multi-layered composition that does justice to mesmerizing views. Our second challenge was preserving the historic integrity of the site’s existing building—formerly a private residence—and including it as part of the experience.
In collaboration with renowned international consultants, we designed a storied escape, with the former palace enhanced as a public element and an appealing focus for guests of the adjacent new hotel. Set on the crest of a lush hill on the outskirts of Tangier, Tazi Palace looks over rolling views of the city and the distant Mediterranean Sea. Complementing the natural site slope and surrounding environment, the new hotel extension blends established Moroccan identity with a contemporary perspective. Luxuriously intimate, the result is a unique destination that adds to the allure of enchanting Tangier.
CCCRA Architects & Engineers performed jointly with OBMI the Schematic Design, and from that point CCCRA developed Detail Design and Construction & Tender Documents and performed the Construction Supervision of the project until hand over.
