@home
The new kitchen concept by C+S architects for .elmar
Who ever said that pleasure wasn’t functional? Charles Eames.
@home thinks the kitchen out of the conventional box, reinterpreting the DNA of those forms that the market conventionally names kitchen and which remind us the more complex memories of a space rich in materiality, flavours and fragrances, a fireplace which to get warm around, a table to work on or share good food as well as a good conversation.
The most sophisticated technical solutions of design fabrication are combined to mould the table foot and the thin plains in stainless steel and titanium pushing the product beyond the conventions. The technology, rather than being exhibited, is instead hidden: the sensual shape of the table foot is the necessary detail to have a 4.5 meter long table in just 2.5 cm thickness.
@home overcomes the idea of the kitchen as a limited superfunctional and aseptic machine.
Splitting up the system into its mayor components, the kitchen is magically turned into a space: the conventional kitchen island becomes a generous wood-made table to chat, sit, work or cook around. An epicentre is laid on the table: the fireplace as a bright steinless steel made plate. Other components are a library, where to collect our precious cooking books or other objects; a contemporary kitchen pantry in decorated ceramics or titanium, and the sideboards, which open up to reveal the beauty of their sophisticated interiors.
The hood is an organ, a vibration of light and sounds materialized by a series of cilinders which (together with the smell aspiration) both house the lighting and the sound speakers, turning the scents of the food into music. To these elements a new one is added, a greenhouse to grow those spices so important for cooking tasty flavours.
@home is the space which instigates a special relationship with its user to make him/her well-being at home.
As Arnheim wrote: The relationship between the architectural object and its users is one of intense interaction.
