Hollywood Dell ADU is a 600 SF accessory dwelling unit in the Hollywood hills of Los Angeles. The setback parameters of the tight hillside site presented a unique opportunity to create a triangular form. Its rooftop deck takes advantage of the views while maximizing outdoor space on the small lot. Conceived during the height of the pandemic, the unit is made of two home offices and a gym for the homeowners on a daily basis, that can be easily covered into a guest or tenant unit with murphy beds, kitchenette and a built-in banquette. The primary home is a 1920s Spanish style home, which informed many of the material and formal decisions on the ADU. Terracotta siding was selected to respond to the main residence’s terracotta roof, while soft curves at the corners and openings relate to the eased edges of the Spanish style vernacular.
