The project replaces HKYWCA’s scattered buildings on the 30 year old campus, the south of Lantau Island in San Shek Wan. The new two-storey centre was designed as a sustainable campus from the outset, with low environmental impact and increased green coverage as its key principles.

The massing and orientation of the centre respects the natural topography. One extinctive feature is that the grass rooftop which has increased the green coverage across the site to 65% is structurally resolved between the angle and horizontal with a feature V-column. It also maximizes the level of sustainability: Solar gain is minimized by orienting the windows away from the west; natural ventilation is encouraged by east-to-west arrangement, with openable windows throughout the centre. The design has minimized construction and life maintenance costs by using limited palette of materials.
