The real estate development firm Hines has launched an international tender for the renovation of the former post office complex of 25,000 sqm located in Milan's Porta Genova. The complex consists of four buildings for offices dating from the decade 1960-1970 that surround a central courtyard.
A new glass roof, the use of color and a double skin façade facing south have transformed the appearance of the building complex.
The four buildings are treated as a single urban block.
The measures include the creation of a new full-height entrance with direct access from the street through the court yard, the new landscape design of the courtyard and its development sloping to the new double-height entrances to individual buildings, a glass roof over the courtyard suspended above the four buildings, the renovation of the facades and the design of a new glass facade for the nine-storey building overlooking via Bergognone, consisting of selective glass that acts as a shield and at the same time as a filter against the sun's rays, reducing the need to air-condition the environment.
The works described givie to the complex a consistent contemporary look.
