Hensel Phelps Construction Company (HPCC) is a national construction company with offices across the United States. Located in Austin Texas, the Southwest District Office is responsible for managing the construction projects in this region, marketing new projects, and developing bids and/or proposals for new work. As the Contractor for the project, the new offices were designed to reflect the sophistication and technical expertise of the company. LEED Silver was easily attained through carefully modulated natural lighting, selective materials and sustainable construction methods. The building is carefully sited to maximize day-lighting, with large, open office windows on the north façade and windows protected by overhangs and sunscreens on the southern exposure. All occupied spaces on the interior are adjacent to either large expanses of glazing or open volumes. The perimeter offices include large areas of glass to allow borrowed light into the interior corridors on the first level. The second level of interior spaces is illuminated by a series of clerestory windows along the axis of the building. A large open stairwell allows this light to extend down to a first floor lounge and features a detailed steel spine stair.
