Haven Point was developed to carefully balance its position within an urban fabric and its location on the edge of the North Sea seafront with the surrounding drama of the cliffs and rocks.
The potential for the form of the building and the fabric to reflect the more organic nature of the site and surrounding area was targeted and explored within the design.
If you approach from the sea, as you sweep round the headland Haven Point is prominent in your view, however it reflects its surroundings in a profound sense.
As one of the first steps in the complex regeneration of the Foreshore, it was important that Haven Point stand out from the existing buildings and thus it echoes the environment and area it serves. Stark and beautiful.
Appearing simple when seen from afar, detailed and fascinating upon closer examination. Even the tiling on the exterior was specifically designed to remind the observer of both the rugged cliffs, and the fluidity of the waves. Like this area of the English coast, it reveals more and more the closer you look.
The brief stated that “The form and mass should create a beacon and presence on the Foreshore waterfront.” This was central to our design and has been achieved.
