After a few years in the big city, the client, a nature-loving Carinthian, moved with his family to flat, rural Lower Austria.
Pure nature, the only thing he's missing are the mountains... That's why Caramel architects built him a “house mountain”. With a view and a toboggan run, you can also enjoy the lowlands.
The wooden construction underlines the rural character without drifting into the folk. The cantilevered upper floor, the summit of the “mountain”, creates a covered area that also functions as a protected car and bicycle parking space and entrance area. This means you can get straight from the car into the house with dry feet.
The location of the living room with open kitchen at the “summit” enables a wide view to the northwest over the plain with long paddocks, fields and bushes.
On the southeast side, on the slope side, the room opens up maximally to the green outdoor space and allows it to merge with the interior. The terrace flows smoothly into a lawn for sunbathing and turns into the slope for tobogganing and balling. The roof above the “summit” is also designed as a green roof
The wooden structure was erected within 3 days using prefabricated wooden panel elements and a prefabricated, multi-layer glued solid wood ceiling with a soffit made of silver fir. The simple interior design is aimed at maximum functionality.
The floors inside and on the terraces consist of polished concrete slabs that are heated and waxed inside.
