- Concept, Urban villas in the heart of Seoul
Our competition design for Hannam proposes a new concept for high-end residential living adapted to 21st century lifestyles by combining in one private complex the best aspects of urban and country living. In our project, residents benefit from living in one of the most desirable and central locations in the heart of Seoul while leading a healthy lifestyle close to nature. Our project conceives of the complex as a secluded garden community in which every resident lives in a private villa in the sky.
- Masterplan
All components were implemented in respect of surrounding contexts and while maintaining the separation between public and private zones, efficient interaction and connection amongst the all areas can be achieved.
- Retail Buffer
Walled Compound, Our scheme draws inspiration from the principles of traditional domestic architecture adapted for 21st lifestyles. We have created a walled compound organized around a series of serene planted courtyards for quiet strolling and contemplation. In our scheme, the masonry wall that defines the perimeter of traditional Korean palace precincts is reconceived of as a retail buffer that borders the two busiest edges of the site located to the north and east.
Moat, A narrow water feature defines the inner edge of the retail buffer, creating an attractive garden amenity that reinforces a sense of tranquility and privacy.
- The Meadow : Terraced Garden
Four garden terraces follow the natural contours of the site which slopes 12M. from north to south.
Four slender residential bars are placed on each of the terraces and are oriented to take advantage of favorable north and south sunlight and open southern city views overlooking the future park in the foreground.
- Clubhouse Courts + ‘Diagonal’
Clubhouse Courts, Rather than create one large facility that takes up valuable square footage and is a rarely used destination, our scheme distributes the communal amenity programs into four bi-level thematic Club Courts located at the base of each of the four housing blocks.
Diagonal, Each of the four Club Courts are connected by the ‘Diagonal’, a glazed arcade that allows residents to pass from the southeast Main Gate to the Northeast retail atrium.
- Bar : consist of 264㎡ and 330㎡ sized units
Our project differs from typical residential high rises, massive blocks densely packed with anonymous apartments without access to nature. In contrast, our scheme celebrates the private dwelling, treating each apartment as a legible building block that can be stacked in various combinations to insure that every unit has double south and north facing exposures as well as generous private gardens with open views. In short, every resident dwells in a private villa in the sky
The basic building block is the villa module which are stacked to form slender bars. Each adjacent unit occupies the full width of the bar so that every room in the apartment receives northern and southern light.
The villa module is adapted to form three unit types that correspond to the three different levels of the Bars: Penthouse (Roof), Sky Terrace (Mid-level), and Meadow (base).
Penthouse Villa, The penthouse units are created by removing modules at the top of the building, creating a stepped roof profile that provides each of the penthouse units with large terraces that enjoy unobstructed eastern or western views. The resultant topographic silhouette recalls the mountains beyond.
Sky Terrace Villa, Modules are removed from the middle of the building to create two-story shared voids. Both upper and lower units enjoy open views from the double height Sky Terrace voids. Lower units receive open views from the terraces while upper units have shaded bay windows. The voids not only benefit the two apartments that look directly on to them, but they also provide view corridors for neighboring mid-level apartments who also can look through the view corridors.
Meadow Villa, Meadow villas occupy the base of the bars. The lower level villa module is shifted outwards to create a south facing terrace for the unit above. Lower apartments have large southern gardens bordered by greenery that insures privacy from the adjacent Meadow.
