Since China successfully hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with the improvement of people's livelihood, the center of construction of sports facilities in China has gradually shifted from professional competitive sports to mass sports and the all-round development of sports culture and sports industry. The positioning of the Tongxiang National Fitness Center works in concert with the requirements of building a sports power in a new era.
The project is located at the intersection of Wuzhen Avenue and Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, aiming to fully integrate the architectural massing and the sports park where it is located into a whole, and to take the fitness center as the anchor point to create more open and public communication space and make the center a popular city parlor.
The main building contains a multifunctional competition hall, natatorium and national gym. The multifunctional competition hall creatively combines the competitive sports space in cyclical use with the mass activities in daily use. The natatorium, with a standard swimming pool and a 25-meter children's training pool, can be used to host local mass competitions. The national gym includes a badminton gym, fencing hall, boxing gym, gymnasium, trampoline hall and fitness room.
The project creatively provides a series of solutions for the common problems of traditional competition sprots stadiums, such as large size, long streamline, closed space and low utilization rate.
The first solution is "three-in-one halls". The project takes the competition hall, natatorium and fitness hall into unified consideration, adopts the emanant pattern with one heart and multiple cores, and integrates these halls and natatorium into an entirety, to optimize the public streamline, share the atrium traffic, and encourage communication between different activities in behavior and sight to the greatest extent. The three core functions can be both divided and combined, and all of them can be operated independently, providing flexible and highly efficient management, encouraging citizens to participate and making them a part of their daily life.
The second solution is the introduction of the concept of "sports MALL" to create rich space experience and sports activities, bringing out the best in each other. We design a shared atrium flooded with sunshine in the MALL. Every space provides perspectives of watching and being watched, in which everyone is both an actor and an audience.
The third solution is "integration of landscape and garden". We replace the standard football field with the more popular 5-people football field, and the combining planning of runway and footpath will be designed and contructed with more interest and diversity.
From the city to the park, and then to the fitness center, a unique streamline of leisure experience of sports culture will be formed, which becomes a public space system for the daily activities of Tongxiang residents. connecting sports activities, recreational functions, leisure space and nature together.
The aesthetic expression of the fitness center reflects the era characteristics highlighting sharing and communication. In terms of methods, inspirations are taken from gymnastics ribbon, and the expression form of "dynamic ribbon" abstracted from architectural language is adopted. The mobility provides people with more efficient and diversified choices, improving the possibility of interaction among different activity groups.
In addition to functions and aesthetics, the planning and design of the project also attaches great importance to environmental protection and sustainable development in construction and operation. The current water system on the east side of the base is preserved, which can not only highlight the landscape characteristics of the natural ecology in the park, but also meet the emergency needs of urban flood discharge.
We hope the construction of Tongxiang National Fitness Center will not only provide a vibrant public place for citizens of Tongxiang and its surrounding areas, but also become an excellent model for future mass sports facilities constructed in China.
