A new five bedroom house on the back of an existing retail unit on Mare Street, Hackney
Satish Jassal Architects have designed a five bedroom three storey house, on the back of unsightly existing retail unit in the Clapton conservation area of Hackney. The new house creates a positive frontage to this backland site and encloses the rear of this urban block. It has been developed with consideration to the master plan for the adjacent St John’s at Hackney site.
The façade composition of the house has been influenced by the characteristics of the local building vernacular, in particular, the ad hoc window arrangements found at the back of the existing 18thC Georgian Terraces along Mare Street.
