The Dynamics of the Curve: Architecture by iy SYNAPSIS ARCHITECTS Inspired by the Feminine Essence
The new gynecological clinic designed by iy SYNAPSIS ARCHITECTS embodies a sense of care, harmony, and pleasant experience. Inspired by the woman during pregnancy, the project captures the fluidity and nurturing essence of life through its design. It is a space that invites visitors to feel comfort and calmness while meeting the demands of contemporary healthcare.
The clinic spans in two levels, each organized around a central core. On the first floor, the reception and waiting area form a welcoming focal point, surrounded by consultation rooms and offices for collaborating gynecologists. This layout ensures privacy and smooth circulation. On the second floor, τhe office of the primary gynecologist is at the heart of the design, serving as a bridge between his private office and its own consultation room and the adjacent clinical spaces. This arrangement strikes a balance between functionality and discretion, catering to diverse needs seamlessly.
The use of curved forms stands out as a defining element of the design. These forms not only introduce a sense of aesthetic fluidity but also transform the elongated floor plan, ensuring ergonomic flow and uninterrupted transitions between spaces while addressing the need for a high number of enclosed rooms. Additionally, the curves extend into the flooring and ceiling of the second floor, adding a dynamic feature that visually and spatially connects different zones.
Materiality plays a pivotal role in shaping the environment. The herringbone-patterned wood flooring enhances the warmth of the space, while Corian, applied to the reception desk and countertops in the consultation rooms, ensures hygiene and durability. The lighting, dynamically adjusted to external conditions, creates an atmosphere that balances tranquility and functionality. The earthy tones of the tiles in the consultation rooms and WC areas amplify the sense of cleanliness and comfort.
A standout feature of the project is the integration of artwork, which not only adorns communal areas but also extends into the consultation rooms. This approach infuses the space with a cultural dimension, transforming it into more than a medical facility – a place of care imbued with personality and meaning.
This project redefines the experience of healthcare facilities, creating an environment that seamlessly blends aesthetics, hygiene, and functionality. With its harmonious design and meticulous attention to detail, it represents a distinctive proposal for publication, perfectly capturing the intersection of architecture and human experience.
