Located on the ground and second floors of a historic building in downtown Toronto, the design facilitates the creative processes of Grayson Matthews, a collective of artists who create original music and sound design for diverse media applications as well as supervise, direct, and cast for film and television. The renovation includes a new, sustainable mechanical system, substantial removal of existing interior partitions, and the restoration of historic masonry with the goal of creating open, collaborative working environments. The ground floor is comprised of four sound-isolated recording studios and 14 production rooms, while the second floor serves as the administrative and social hub, housing offices, boardrooms, and a multipurpose social space.
With the intention of acting as a social condenser, the second floor provides amenity and opportunity for artists, producers, technicians, actors, and clients to rub shoulders over a meal and cross-pollinate ideas. SvN worked with acoustic consultant Pilchner Schoustal International and construction managers Boszko and Verity to ensure the project was completed with a high degree of workmanship within the client's timeframe and budget.
