As the mission, vehicles and staffing of the Cities Area Transit system have evolved over the last 40 years the existing facility had grown increasingly inefficient and unable to meet the current needs, let alone future needs. A remodel plus expansion of the administrative office and driver areas, as well as additional space to store and maintain 20 additional buses — plus Phase II expansion — will meet the needs for long-term growth over the next 50 years. Common staff areas, such as the conference room, breakroom and restrooms serve to buffer drivers and maintenance staff from administrative staff and the public. The expansions provided an opportunity to improve the aesthetic of the main entry and public areas as well as bringing natural daylighting into the bus storage and maintenance areas.
