This renovation of an apartment in a post-war mid-rise Manhattan building alters an overly divided plan in order to maximize openness across rooms while creating a unifying material palette.
The removal of three interior walls allows for visibility and connection between the living room and kitchen. An island counter extends into the foyer, creating an illusion of length. A precise combination of light finishes for surfaces such as walls and countertops and dark finishes for the wood allows the millwork to read as a series of volumes inserted into the space.
