After 55 years of business, communications firm GolinHarris decided to completely redesign its service platform to combine strategy, creativity and engagement into one seamless package that is delivered to clients – big or small. In the process, GolinHarris coined the term “prevolve” to describe their readiness for the future. The Chicago office needed to not only embody this mission but enable its staff to meet its goals and function in a practical and creative way. TPG aligned the new 61,000 square foot workplace with people, processes and technology in a way that allows GolinHarris to win in a connected and complex society. The office breaks away from the traditional silos, and seniority-based hierarchy is replaced with open communities of dedicated staff. Rather than housing staff in enclosed offices, every workspace, meeting space and social space is completely open in the two floor office. Even the executives sit in an open office, separated by a non-permanent furniture solution. Traditionally, GolinHarris has been a conservative firm, and moving towards an open office environment signaled a bold move for the firm. Senior management wanted to create a dynamic workplace to encourage collaboration and creativity. GolinHarris’ position started with “we know how it should work, but not what it will look like,” and TPG helped the firm visualize how people work, how they interact with one another and how space and information flows in creative environments; this analysis was the basis for the new office plan. In addition to an open floor plan with a staircase connecting both floors, GolinHarris’ new office features a room for media specialists to monitor the news, creative booths for discussion, and a social space with game tables.
