This contemporary building of oriental inspiration offers 3000 m² dedicated to wellness by Geneva Lake. Located in a park with outdoor pools open only during summer, it allows the complex and the area to stay active throughout the year.
The wellness center comprises indoor and outdoor pools, hammam and a spa circuit, relaxation areas, two cafés and a panoramic terrace with a splendid view on the lake and the Jura Mountains.
In a project where prefabrication plays a major role, from its conception to its final image , the choice of mineral look façade has been specifically conceived in order to integrate the building in the Genève-Plage Landmark, an ensemble of concrete architecture built in the 1930’s.
The monolithic base of the building is made of 9m wide, 5,80m high marble white prefabricated concrete panels. The upper glass volumes are hidden behind another prefabricated skin made of 1,25m wide, 2,60m high white UHPC (Ultra-high Performance Concrete) carved with Mashrabiyas that punctually breach the massive white base, folding to create the main access. They are the result of a reinterpretation of classic Persian architecture motifs and eventually fade into the sky.
A part of the program, with three different levels, is developed underground, beneath the main entrance of the building.
Seven of these prefabricated Mashrabiya panels have also been installed horizontally as a natural light filter, hanged 7.80m over the underground Hammam basin allowing a constant change of lights and shadows and creating an ambiance of serenity that evoke certain Oriental interiors.
The interior is an allegoric synthesis of Orient and Occident. Mosaics are present all over in a monochromatic materialization depending on the area: blue in the baths/pools areas, red in the hammam circuit. Grey tiles emphasize spatial sobriety, and plain oak panels bring a warm contemporary touch. An exterior tower, inspired by Persian windcatchers, goes top down to the interior pool, connecting the pool with the sky and exterior conditions through a reflection space. The building’s occidental modernity blends with the oriental tradition to achieve a contemporary minimalist outlook.
The project's technical installations run with 100% sustainable energy. Heating of the building and water is provided by heat pumps using lake water. The power is supplied by locally produced gas. In order to preserve the exterior pool’s heat, the 240 m³ of water are emptied and stored through the night in an underground reservoir.
