In a central location in Gaziosmanpasa / Istanbul, a multifunction building including, under floor-storey car park, indoor sports facilities, an outdoor football pitch, local bazaar that established once in a week and landscape area is designed on a 9033 m² parcel. Considering different functions, mostly high density circulation on varied periods of time both pedestrian and vehicle is thought to be one of the most important design input. Effective use of existing elevation on landscape and access from different corners of the project area not only provided effective organization of pedestrian flow but also interacting different function zones one another while intensifiying connection to the city.
Complicated functions in the requirement list, levelled by considering usage and frequency, the need for natural light and integration to urban environment. With a landscape design, an indoor and outdoor sports grounds are designed accessing Mehmet Akif Street, where pedestrian circulation and vehicle traffic flow is dense. The ramp, accessing the underground car park, located on the level of the back streets where the density of the vehicle much less while entry and exit of vehicles has avoided the possibility of disrupting the city traffic. The level +125.30, which accessed without the need to use in the ramp, is designed to serve as a local bazaar on one day of the week. It is proposed to keep only underground parking floors accesible while the bazaar is established. Thus, it is avoided both wandering a floor that temporarly does not provide parking zone and constituting a danger for pedestrians in the marketplace.
Effective use of topographic elevation in the project area, provided continuous and productive interaction between urban areas and different functions of the building. The outer contour of the slabs, separating functions on different levels, considerably increasing draw back beginning from third basement to above, creates a visual fluidity while providing interaction with each other. The drawback of the slabs increases lower floors direct access of natural light while providing spatial layering. The proposed gathering and walking areas on the roof floor, specializes as an articulating layer on urban context. The architectural shell layer, covering football pitch, communicates with its urban surroundings on the upper level of the building while creating an opportunity of interactive event among players and viewers. The semi transparent shell, wrapping the surrounding of football pitch and bleachers while defining the area, also stands out as an urban reference point.
