Fragrance of Earth is a 12-acre mango orchard retreat built on a small hill, shaped by a deep connection to the land and a commitment to natural materials.
The house is constructed using rammed earth, a sustainable and traditional technique, with reclaimed wood used for interior elements. When external expertise proved too expensive, local labourers were trained in the process—many of whom later applied these skills to build their own homes.
The architecture is simple and grounded: thick rammed earth walls paired with a black sloping roof that blends quietly into the landscape. Inside, the walls create a warm, textured environment that changes with light through the day.
Set on the elevated edge of the site, the home includes three bedrooms connected through a central courtyard passage. This layout subtly separates private and shared spaces, ensuring comfort and privacy.
