A folded timber plate became the morphological structure of this dwelling to achieve the client’s desire to frame views and engage the natural. The continuity of the timber plate and its treatment helps dissolve the barrier between the
interior and exterior environments. An open floor plan and expansive glazing on the main level provide for a 270 degree panoramic view to the Ozark Highlands and an adjacent valley below. In a nod to the vernacular, exposed plank and beam construction is utilized throughout, along with reclaimed timbers from a nearby barn.
The project incorporates many sustainable design elements including: high performance, passive low-e glazing, passive heating and cooling with extended building overhangs and seasonal planting(s), natural cross ventilation, geothermal heat pump, and locally sourced and harvested materials
