Fog House is designed so sit on the dramatic knoll of a lot housing a small berm house by Case Study architect Mario Corbett. The site offers 270 degree panoramic views including Mt. Tamalpais, San Francisco, the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge and the Pacific Ocean. The design directly engages the conditions and phenomena of its environment - organized around a void space that allows the site's ubquitous fog to pass through the middle of the house.
Simultaneously embedded wihin and floating above its site, Fog House aims to transcend the desire of the client brief for a glass box that takes in the entirety of its surroundings.
The Fog House received an AIA SF Best of Bay Award, and the project drawings were acquired as part of the Architecture and Design Permanent Collection at SFMOMA.
