Jonathan Bailey Associates was the lead
designer and project planner/architect for Florida Hospital Waterman, which
illustrates the idea of comprehensive one-stop health services. This multi-story, 450,000 s.f. building
incorporates 220 beds, including cardiac diagnostic and treatment services,
women and children's services and oncology.
The facility also provides a 24-hour Emergency Department and a
comprehensive medical imaging department that includes the most advanced
technological modalities. Anchoring one end of the hospital, is an 18,000
s.f. Cancer Center. Initially, the hospital will operate one
linear accelerator, but the site will be able to accommodate up to two
additional accelerator suites as patient and physician demand increases. Sixty doctors' offices, dispersed in convenient
locations within the building, complement extensive outpatient
facilities. In the design, a
12,000 s.f. atrium was ringed by retail units such as a restaurant, a
fast-food kiosk, a florist, a gift shop and a newsstand. The atrium was not only the hospital's
public circulation hub and main lobby, but also its threshold.
