The promenade of the Danube Canal in Vienna represents one of the most popular urban spaces of the city. Fläche Adria contributes to its high value and is therefore more than just a gastronomic establishment.
A multifunctional stepped stand descends north of an existing glass construction towards the water and functions as a roof for the space below and as a walkable surface overlooking the canal. The steps on the surface are oriented towards northwest and promise sunny evening hours. The space below the roof is designed for the gastronomic use and offers enough room for cultural events. The entire stand is conceived as a temporary, completely removable and reconstructible wooden structure, resulting in a convincing statement of sustainable design. A line of beach huts on a sandy surface south of the glass pavilion brings the Mediterranean Adriatic Sea to the shores of the Viennese Danube Canal.
