Founded in Australia in 2005, Nitro is a PDF software company that is revolutionizing the way the world works with documents. The company has a strong sense of hospitality and ensures that every member of the team knows how to work hard and play hard. In their own words, the new space needed to demonstrate “larrikinism,” which refers to the Australian folk tradition of irreverence. To this end, instead of a traditional reception desk, Blitz built a fully-functional bar with taps and under-counter refrigerators. The geometric canopy at the reception is clad in reclaimed wine barrel staves (Merlot, of course) and guests are invited to join the Nitro team for happy hour every day. The work cafe also provides a venue for the team to meet informally over a bite and drink, or listen to the resident DJ spin tunes from the DJ booth.
The tactile, layered, materials-based design aesthetic carries through to the work-cafe and beyond, ensuring a holistic experience. Though very focused on their product and the work they are doing, the Nitro team doesn’t take themselves too seriously and wanted the space to reflect their cheeky sense of humor. Fun graphics, flying wombats, graffiti, and the absence of the trapping of traditional corporate design ensure that the space is always ready to support the Nitro team as they work hard and play harder.
